Location of executable file.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone:

In order to customize the Xencelabs drawing tablet, I need to locate the Affinity Photo program file. But I can't find the file on my PC. There is the Affinity folder with its corresponding folders and files. But there is no classic .exe file.

Xencelabs gives you the option to make different configurations for each application. Without the Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer executable file, this is not possible.

The .exe files are there, but Windows hides them when you've used the MSIX installers.

You can locate them, but it's tricky, and will only work for you if Xencelabs lets you type the path to the .exe file. It won't work if it makes you search/browse for the file.

1. Run the app.

2. Run Task Manager.

3. Right-click on the app in Task Manager and choose Open File Location. This will give you a File Explorer window showing the .EXE file.

4. Right-click on the file. One of your options will be to copy the path as text. (If you don't see that you may need to choose More Options).

5. Copy it as text, and paste that into the Xencelabs configuration.

Otherwise, you can uninstall the MSIX version of the applications you have now and install using the MSI/EXE version of the installers, instead.

This FAQ has more info on that approach:

Thank you for the solution, I finally understand how to make the Affinity programs launch directly. I had always chosen the first installation file which was the MSIX type. That installs in the troublesome C:\Program Files\WindowsApps directory. I had to use a program called TakeOwnershipPro to unlock that directory. Then once I found the Affinity executable and linked them to my launcher, they would break every time Affinity had an update, which seems about every time I used their programs. Too many updates! But now the programs stay static in the C:\Program Files\Affinity directory. Sadly it took me almost two years to figure that out. Then I have to ask, why make two totally different installation methods?

See here for an explanation: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/180014-how-do-i-download-affinity-v2-windows-msiexe-un-sandboxed-versions/

Basically, different people wanted different things, so Serif put in a lot of time and effort to allow for that.

I tired this but the file lcoation option in task manager is greyed out so I cannot resolve the issue.

You tried what?

Right-clicking the Open File Location works for me.

The location the MSIX versions are installed to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps
