raverdave
Hi, I changed the language from Portuguese to English im the Apple settings menu while the file (37MB with several linked photos) was open in the Publishers App. Since then I cannot reopen the file as it crashes everytime. No crash report is shown. It is an file with important text and content for me, is there a possibility to fix it? I’m grateful for your advices! P.S I uploaded the file here. ma_booklet_30072024 backup.afpub Edited August 27 by raverdave
Hangman
Hi @raverdave and welcome to the forums, Your file opens without issue for me on macOS Desktop so I've simply resaved it... Let us know whether or not the attached file opens on your iPad... If it doesn't, try renaming the folder containing the Linked images. This should break the link to the image files which may be causing the crash and then see if the file opens... ma_booklet_30072024 v2.afpub Quote Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.2861 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
raverdave
Thanks @Hangman for your incredibly quick response! Unfortunately also your file makes Publisher crash. I also changed the folder’s name now, same problem… Other files open, I also reinstalled the ios App. Do you have any further idea to solve the issue? I would also be very happy to just have the document as a PDF, to at least have all the content, if there is no other solution.
Hangman
Hi @raverdave, I'm slightly unsure what is causing the crash as there's nothing obviously wrong with your file... Preflight suggests the TOC needs updating though doing so completely reformats it... Does it make any difference if you change the language back to Portuguese in the Apple setting before opening the file? I've attached a version without the TOC (just in case, though I'm not hopeful that will make any difference) along with a PDF of the file... raverdave
Dear @Hangman, I tried to open yout file again, but it still crashes. Also the prior change of the language setting to Portuguese did not help. I fear this will remain an unsolved mysterious case… at least I can continue to work with the PDF! Thank you a lot for your help.
Hangman
Hi @raverdave, I've now attached a rebuilt version of the Publisher file just in case that makes a difference so it would be interesting to know if this version still crashes... ma_booklet_30072024 v4.afpub Quote Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.2861 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

Hangman
@raverdave, I'm sure I'm stating the obvious but have you tried rebooting the iPad? The file itself doesn't immediately appear to be the issue since it can be opened on Desktop so I'm wondering whether changing the language settings has caused an iPad specific problem. Just a thought... walt.farrell
You should be able to find a crash report: You might also try Resetting the app. Make sure the app is closed, so that when you start it you get the Splash screen. When you get that screen, double-tap it with 1 finger and you'll get a Reset dialog. I would start by leaving just the first item checked, and click the Reset button. raverdave
@walt.farrell Thank you, I’ll added the Crash Report, maybe it helps you to understand the issue. Also the reset couldn’t change anything. And yes indeed, @Hangman, I tried to reboot. Nothing changed… Publisher iPad-2024-08-27-103700.ips

Staff NathanC Posted September 17 Staff Share Posted September 17 (edited) Welcome to the forums @raverdave, I can confirm I'm also able to reproduce the crash when opening your document but only on iPad. The crash report indicates towards an issue with resources but isn't specific about which one(s) are causing the crash. I've attached three versions of your document: - All Images and PDF resources removed (Removed Resources.afpub) - Images removed but PDF resources retained (PDFs Kept.afpub) - Images kept but PDF resources removed (Images Kept.afpub) Can you confirm if you're able to open any of these three files on iPad? In these states i'm able to open all three on iPad, just not your original doc.
