Hi @Iztok,

I suspect the issue you're seeing is down to the complexity of the file and having snapping enabled...

The Perunika object contains 4,756 vector layers and the Meta object contains 5,168 vector layers... when working with the file on a high-spec machine I sometimes get a 'Snapping timed out' error or the spinning beachball but turning snapping off allows for fluid text selection and prevents any lag when selecting objects...

Affinity's Marketing states "Live, responsive and fast, even on the most complex docs. Handle thousands of objects with no lag". so I think someone in the moderation team would need to comment as to whether this would be considered a bug since with snapping enabled there is 'sometimes' a definite lag after working within either the Perunika or Meta Layers for some time and a definite lag when zooming if the Text Frame tool is selected but not when the Move tool is selected...

Hi @Iztok,

I'm not having any trouble selecting anything in the file and i'm also not getting the Snapping Time Out that @Hangman is and i've tried this on my M3 MacBook Pro with 48GB of RAM and also on our M1 MacBook Air with 8GB.  @Hangman had you changed any of the Snapping settings?

Also if you don't need those objects as curves, you could select all and rasterise them which would then likely speed the file up as well.

Hi @stokerg,

You need to play around with the layers in the Perunika or Meta groups for a little while, e.g., just selecting different layers, then try and double-click to select some text... For me, that is when I see the spinning beach ball and also the point where I see the 'Snapping timed out' error if hovering over the 'Smartinsko Jezero' logo top left...

As soon as I switch off Snapping I have no issues with the file...

Likewise, after selecting numerous layers in either the Perunika or Meta groups, there is an obvious lag when zooming the page in and out if you still have the text tool selected and snapping enabled...

These are my default snapping settings...

Edit: Note I'm only seeing the issues when Hardware Acceleration is Enabled...

select the "perunika" layer directly on the page, it only selects part of the group, and the layer panel opens with all the 1000 layers in the group. It's fantastic that I can vectorize a photo in Illustrator and simply copy and paste 1000 objects directly into Publisher, something InDesign can't do. However, these issues have occurred. I managed to work around it somehow, but I think the developer could fix this "bug." I suggest that the move tool should open groups only with two clicks or with the Node tool or even open layer if I want to.

Hi @Iztok,

Could you upload a screen recording to show us the exact problem you’re seeing as I think we’re all seeing slightly different problems depending on the settings we have enabled…

tray to select text, one click two clicks, when select in layer perunika only part of group is selected even also perunika layer is selected and when i click on page, the layer gorup open to 1000 layers every time

If you put all the objects from the Perunika Layer into a Group instead of a Layer (Capital L) in the same way the objects appear in two groups inside the Meta Group then when you click an object from the Group on the page the whole Perunika Group will be selected without the Group expanding each time...

Then, if you need to select an individual layer inside the Perunika Group you can Cmd Click the object on the Page to expand the Group assuming you have auto-scroll enabled in the Layers Panel Hamburger menu...

I'm not seeing any obvious issue selecting text after having selected a Layer inside the Perunika Layer so I'm slightly unsure why you see that in your screen recording.

I do however see the 'Snapping time out' error and a lag when zooming in if the frame text tool is selected but this only happens when Hardware Acceleration is enabled in the Publisher Performance Preferences...

If you have Hardware Acceleration enabled try turning it off to see if you still have the same issue selecting text once you've placed all the objects from the Perunika Layer into a Group instead and let us know how you get on...

Hi @stokerg,

This is the issue I see when Hardware Acceleration is enabled, i.e., the 'Snapping time out' error and a lag when zooming in if the Frame Text tool is selected... Curious to know if you see the same issue if you have Hardware Acceleration is enabled... As mentioned above, neither issue is present once Hardware Acceleration is switched off...

I'm curious as to why zooming is affected when the Frame Text tool is selected but not when the Move tool is selected when Hardware Acceleration is enabled...
