newman n Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 I am getting the following error after updating Affinity Photo from version 2.4 to 2.5. When I uninstalled it and reinstalled the app, it started working again on the lower versions, but once I upgraded again to the newer version it failed. walt.farrell Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Welcome to the Affinity forums. Can you provide more information about when this occurs, and what you're doing when it does? Do you also get any Crash Reports? walt.farrell Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Thanks. For that, I suggest following the steps in this FAQ: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. And did you try the steps for turning off Hardware Acceleration listed in that FAQ? Thanks, too, for the .dmp file as that may help the Affinity team figure out additional steps. newman n Posted July 10, 2024 Author Posted July 10, 2024 I did not do that, but I just did. I have no settings that I can't reapply, so I also tried resetting all the settings to see what would happen and both times the app crashed. Attached is another crash report for this additional test. ab0800c7-f3f1-462b-9460-0f599a43d397.dmp walt.farrell 1 Quote
Dan C Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 Sorry to hear you're having trouble @newman n & welcome to the Affinity Forums! On 7/10/2024 at 3:09 AM, newman n said: Exception Info: System.Runtime.InteropServices.SEHException at <Module>.PersonaController.LoadFontsAndPropertyCollections(PersonaController*) The crash you're experiencing appears to be a previously fixed issue that occurred on certain Windows machines when loading fonts. This was resolved in our v2.5.2 update, and we've also since released v2.5.3 with further bug fixes included. I can see you are currently running v2.5.0, which is why this crash is still occurring. Please visit the below link to download the latest version of Affinity for Windows: https://store.serif.com/update/universal-licence/ Once downloaded, install the updates and you should find the apps then launch as expected walt.farrell 1 Quote
newman n Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 That seems to have worked. After I installed the update, I was left with 2 installs of Affinity Photo though. I removed the old one, but that seems a little weird for an update. But thank you for the quick reply and getting me moving again. Quote

That sounds like you probably had the application installed using the EXE installer, then installed the update using the MSIX installer. In that scenario, it was not an update but a separate full install. (The opposite scenario is also possible, but I think it's less likely in most cases. Without knowing exactly the steps you took to install it, I can't say much more.)
