LEB
Hi, I am using the Open Sans variable size font in AP 2.5.2. Although the "Bold" item exists in the font menu drop down and works accordingly, command-B will not work. However, italicising with either the menu or command-I does work (see video). Is it a bug? Alfred
If you look at the Context toolbar, you’ll see that the I and U buttons are enabled but the B button is disabled. I only have the static Open Sans fonts installed here, but I suspect that there is no ‘Slant’ axis in the variable version (which means that you would need to press a button or a keyboard shortcut for italic text). The expectation is that you would use the Weight axis control for bold text. Press the V button (to the left of the Font Size combo on the Context toolbar) to display the Variable Font axis controls. LEB
Hi @Alfred, I understand but this looks to me not as the expected behaviour.
garrettm30
The issue is that Affinity currently is not able to link the weight axis of variable fonts to the “Font weight” attribute in Publisher. I first noticed this in connection with the font weight attribute in text styles and reported it, but later in the thread I also realized the (apparently) same problem also means that the bold button in the contextual menu does not work. This is evidently true for all variable fonts: the bold button, its associated keyboard shortcut, and the font-weight attribute do not work for any variable fonts. It has been logged as a bug.
