One thing I miss from Affinity Photo is the ability to import images directly from a scanner attached to my PC. PhotoPlus did this, Corel Painshop Pro did this, Adobe Elements did this. Can we please have a standardized dialog/persona which incorporates this feature into the Windows version?

I realize this might be more complicated than the Mac version which is why we haven't got it yet? However, it would improve workflow for many users.

The scanner software I use (VueScan and SilverFast) can be configured so that the image saved from the scan opens immediately in Photo. Not as good as being able to scan directly from Photo, but a convenient workaround. From about 20 to 15 years ago, I spent a lot of time scanning my collection of 35mm slides and the ability to scan directly from my Photo Editor would have been invaluable.

From what I gather, in the earlier days of Affinity Photo under Windows, as it is a 64-bit application, there was a lot more confusion over the APIs and interfaces for accessing scanners, making it a lot more complicated because of the various conflicting APIs to choose from.

With 32-bit applications, the traditional scanner API under Windows was TWAIN, but with 64-bit applications, Microsoft evidently tried to push to its own WIA APIs instead and no longer include TWAIN support with Windows.

Most of the scanners did not initially support WIA however, and only bundled TWAIN drivers, making WIA almost useless initially.

At this point more of the scanners likely include WIA drivers, but TWAIN is also available as an add-on installation for 64-bit Windows systems.

In order to support this well under a 64-bit Windows application, Serif would probably need to implement both TWAIN and WIA support to get this going.  That might not have been practical when Photo was first released, but it looks like it might be now.
