AJS
After updating to Photo 2.5 on a Windows 11 system, I tried editing a simple document. I selected a square of the base layer, hit ctrl-c and ctrl-v. Instead of copying and pasting the selection, Photo duplicated the layer. I assumed I hit the wrong shortcuts and clicked on the Edit menu's Copy and Paste to make sure I was giving the right commands. Again, rather than copying and pasting the selection, Photo duplicated the layer. I checked to make sure the pixel selection wasn't inverted or anything like that; it was not, examination proved the entire layer was being duplicated each time. Changing the selection didn't help. I couldn't get it to stop this behavior. I restarted and tried with a different document and it happened again. Later, with a different document, I made a Magic Wand selection and tried to use the Paste Inside command. Nothing pasted. The layer panel showed a new layer but it didn't show a thumbnail or respond to interaction. I also tried to save a simple black and white illustration as a grayscale GIF with transparency and Photo choked, hanging up for a couple of minutes until I gave up and saved as a PNG instead. Anyone else running into these issues?

To me this looks like a bug.

This will happen if the "base layer" is an Image layer and not a Pixel layer. 19 hours ago, AJS said: GIF with transparency I am not 100% sure if GIF supports transparency. I believe it doesn't. AJS
I admit I don't know if the image's base layer was an "image" layer. I don't know why it would be... it was a screengrab taken with Windows Snipping Tool and created with "new from clipboard" in Affinity Photo. The second image I tested was just a stock photo JPG which I'd worked with before and had copy-pasted from successfully before. Also, not sure why copy-paste would behave that way on an "image" layer as opposed to a pixel layer? It doesn't seem like a useful behavior to happen to any kind of layer. But I'll test another snipping tool screengrab to see if that was the issue, and i'll look out for that possibility in the future if this behavior recurs. Quote I am not 100% sure if GIF supports transparency. I believe it doesn't. I'm confused. Why would Affinity Photo's GIF format not support transparency? Gifs have supported transparency since 1989. From Wikipedia: Quote The original version of GIF was called 87a. This version already supported multiple images in a stream. In 1989, CompuServe released an enhanced version, called 89a,[2] This version added: support for animation delays transparent background colors

Same with the stock panel, dragging an image from the stock panel onto an open document will also create an Image layer, which would need rasterising before using the selection tools. 6 hours ago, AJS said: I'm confused. From Wikipedia: Quote We do support transparent GIFs and I've just been able to export a grayscale GIF with transparency without a hang. If you can setup an afphoto file that does hang for you when exporting and attach it here, i'll be happy to see if i can replicate the issue and get it logged with the Developers if needed
