Why isn’t my brush working!

Recommended Posts

I was playing around with brushes trying to get some effects and the next thing I’m drawing blanks - again - a common problem I find with this software - I can’t get any brush to lay anything down no matter what settings I tweak

Tried swiping the app away and restarting

Tried on a new file

Can’t get a pixel brush to lay anything down

Video attached

Have I done something or yet another BUG

Why is this software not getting any easier to use as I try to develop my skills ?

Because there are a lot of capabilities, and you haven't learned them all.

It lets you work on the edges without accidentally extending the canvas, for the thing. It's a good feature, that you just need to learn about, or not use (i.e., don't turn the option on if you don't want to use it).

A bit of feedback on Alpha Protect.

I had the same issue - my brushes weren't brushing.  The Assistant even saw I was trying to paint and created a new Pixel layer for me, but no go.  I could get some to work by choosing Pixel brush, but my more recent brush purchases just wouldn't.  At all.  Even the Pixel layer created by the assistant was locked to these brushes.

I've never turned on Alpha Protect.  As far as I could tell, it wasn't on.  I clicked it in case I didn't know what it looked like when it was.  My brushes still didn't work.  So I clicked it again and the brushes I had been trying to use started working.

It seems to me to be a bug.  That is, AP seems to be turned on by default in the updates, but it doesn't look like it's on.  I had to turn it on then off before my brushes worked properly.

BTW, before toggling AP, stamps worked, and some brushes - older ones and those from Affinity.  Now they all work, and I'm grateful to this thread for that.

None of this has been an issue on Windows 10 PC, same version.
