If you copy an object in Publisher to the clipboard and paste it into Designer using "New from clipboard", the size of the object is changed arbitrarily. Where can this function be switched off so that the size of the object is NOT changed during this process?

Thanks for the answer

Hi @Peter Hauffe and welcome to the forums,

  1. Are you on Mac or Windows?
  2. What resolution (dpi) are both your Publisher and Designer documents?
  3. Is there any reason why you're using 'New from Clipboard' rather than simply pasting the copied item using Edit > Paste?

When I use New from clipboard, I always get the same size in pixels of the copied object in both (actually all 3) apps. So could it be that what you see is because you are using different units of measurement or resolutions in the apps?

If not, could you post a small *.afpub document with just a few objects in it, tell us which one(s) you are copying to the clipboard, & also the *.afdesign  document that you get when you use New from clipboard in that app?

In pixels yes, but not in same source DPI, so then object change its dimensions.

It's a shame, and it's been requested many times, that Afinity doesn't respect the DPI of the inserted/created object - even when the object is copied from its own application.

DPI is irrelevant unless the file is printed, at which time it can be set to anything, since it is just metadata that the printer may or may not use.

EDIT: please refer to https://affinityspotlight.com/article/understanding-dpi/ for more about this.

You are making the baseless assumption that the OP is working with "pixels". If you work in units of length, then changing the DPI is completely essential and annoying. See dozens of cases and requests for redress, such as:

And many, many more.
