PLPowers Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 I've been this version since it came out, I was in a project, which I had shut down the previous night, and now I can't get in to it to finish it. I'm on a 2019 Mac with Sonoma, which has been just horrible, but I haven't had any problem with Affinity before this. Like 6 months or so. Quote
MikeTO Posted April 11, 2024 Posted April 11, 2024 Hi @PLPowers there's nothing worse than losing work you've spent a great deal of time on. I'm not sure I understand your issue - are you able to open Publisher but not your document or are you not able to open Publisher at all? If you're able to open Publisher, had you previously saved the file? What happens when you try to open it? Where did you save the file? Do you have Time Machine turned on in macOS Settings? Which version of Publisher are you using? 2.4.2 or an earlier version? Good luck Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.5, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)

PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 I can't open Publisher, at all. the file was saved internally in it. I should have set up Time Machine, but my previous iMac, I couldn't get it to work. Fortunately I have a pdf file, so I can do it again, but it's sooooooo frustrating. This Sonoma has just giving me fits the whole time. I never put a new OS on, at the outset, let everyone find the issues, but Photo Elements 24 wouldn't work without it. Thanks Quote
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 Ok - after I submitted that, I rooted around and found the DMG for 2.0 so I opened that up, and it seemed to be working up, and even my project was still there but it said it was done with an upgrade that had things that this version doesn't have. Ok, so close. SOOOO close. but then I went to the updates and then I get this What does that mean? thanks Quote
Ash Eldritch Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Just a thought, have you Installed that version of AP into your Application folder or are you running it from the DMG? Quote Using M2 Mac mini with 16GB RAM. OS: Sonoma 14.5

You're running it directly from the DMG. PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 so the dialog or whatever to move it to the application folder, did not come up, it just opened. There must be a way to up that up. Quote
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 Ok, I rooted around and found the DMG and the dialog box came up to put it in the folder. it's verifying Quote
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 so close. Now it says I can't open it because it's not responding. Quote
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 now it says it's already running, but I put the first one in the trash. Quote
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 I thought that maybe the DMG shouldn't be on the desktop so I put that on an auxiliary disk and put it in the trash . still it says it's running Quote
Ash Eldritch Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 You need to quit AP then "Eject" the DMG - As if you were ejecting an external hard drive. Then start AP. Quote Using M2 Mac mini with 16GB RAM. OS: Sonoma 14.5
PLPowers Posted April 12, 2024 Author Posted April 12, 2024 I found the original one was corrupted, in a folder within folder etc, but it says it can't be put in the trash because it's running. I'm sure that's a way to over ride that. I am 82 and I've worked with computers for aeons but I help here. thanks Quote
Ash Eldritch Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 Press these three keys together: Option (or Alt), Command & Esc (Escape). That will bring up a list of open apps and allow you to force quit AP. After you've forced it to quit I would advise restarting your Mac. Then, once you've restarted, make sure that DMG isn't still open. Trash the corrupted version. Then start the newly installed AP that's in your Application folder. Hopefully that'll sort your issue.
