Craig M
hello, I'm trying to a create new layer from selection. I make make my selection with the selection brush and then hit Command C and Command V. The new layer is just an exact copy . It's suppose to be just the selection. I'm new to Affinity Photo and thinking maybe I have something wrong in my settings. Any help would be really appreciated, thanks
walt.farrell
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. It sounds like you're working with an Image layer rather than a Pixel layer. You can check that in the Layers panel. In that case, before doing the Copy, you could Rasterize the layer (Layer > Rasterize, or right-click it in the Layers panel) so you can access individual pixels. Or, instead of Cmd+C, try Edit > Copy Merged (probably Cmd+Shift+C). If you Opened a JPG, TIFF, or PNG it should be Pixel. See the Layer Types section in this Affinity help article for a list of all layer types: https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Layers/aboutLayers.html. It sounds like maybe RAW layers behave similar to Image layers, in that selections can’t be copied from them.

walt.farrell
You can get a Pixel layer if you choose to Develop to one (see Context Toolbar in Develop Persona) or you can have a RAW layer, which is something like an Image layer.
