Wrapping text round grouped objects

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have grouped some pictures with text frames to the side (credit of photos), but can't work out how to wrap round both objects. I'd already selected wrap round the pictures before adding the text frame & grouping. Now the wrap options are greyed out.

Thanks

Regarding the greyed out options, do you have anything selected? Meaning is the picture selected? Check your layers panel.

I wouldn't group the pictures, but that is just me and I don't actually know why you have grouped them. Apply the text wrap to the pictures and the text will flow around the pictures individually, apply the wrap to the group and the text will go around the entire group which may not be what you want.

I image.png.659893e050d31cdc6ce8171c27832061.png As shown here, the text is under the text frame to the left of the photo

Thanks

This is what I'd done & I grouped the text frame & image so that I could move the image & the credit would move too. I had the group selected & the wrapping was greyed out. I did manage to sort it by ungrouping, wrapping the text frame & then re grouping, but a bit long winded.

For some reason your image.png didn't make it.

Apart from your failed screenshot upload: I can reproduce a grayed-out Text Wrap menu option if  the TW dialog window is opened already and currently 'activated' (on mac: traffic light icons are coloured).

Clicking somewhere to de-activate the TW dialog enables the menu option. (while I don't see an advantage to use the menu if the dialog is opened already I also don't see a need for the menu to be grayed-out)

Hi

Thanks. Sorry for delay in posting, been away. Had to find workaround (which I did) as had to send this out before going away.

Hopefully this image comes through for you! I selected the grouped image/caption & then clicked on TW box on toolbar & this is what I got. No traffic lights on PC. Layers panel also includedimage.png.5941c326f6d9dd7e81c7db3760fbb1d6.png

What "options" do you mean in particular? In case of "Wrap To": these are accessible only if one of the "Wrap Style" options next to "None" is selected. For instance:

Sorry. Doing this in a hurry. I guess now that I've got it wrapping, by ungrouping, wrapping round text frame & picture separately, it shows as wrapping. Before, after I'd put in picture (with wrap) & then added text frame & grouped, all wrap options were greyed out.

I'm still on a steep learning curve with AP (not sure that ever stops, but hopefully gets less steep)

Deb, note that:

  • Text wrap can be applied to individual objects and to groups
  • If you ungroup a group you lose the text wrap applied to the group
  • If you group objects their individual text wrap settings will not be lost but they will be overruled by the group's text wrap settings. This point can be difficult to see if the individual objects and the group have similar text wrap settings but if you do a test with two ellipses, one of which has Text Wrap set to Square, the other to None, and then group them and set Text Wrap to Tight you'll see what I mean.

Good luck
