Problem: 2.4 update - Export commands cause Affinity to freeze totally

Recommended Posts

After the update to 2.4, Affinity freezes totally on every attempt to use Export. By totally I mean no dialog appears to choose Export options; the freeze is immediate. The keyboard shortcut, File|Export and the Export persona all behave in the same way. I have to crash out of the program using Task Manager in WIndows to be able to move on. Using WIndows 10 Pro 22H2 Build 19045.4046

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Do you ever use multiple monitors on your PC, and if so are they all attached and powered on now? It sounds like, perhaps, the Export dialog is being presented on a monitor you don't currently have attached. That can happen if you last used it on a different monitor, as the dialogs remember the last monitor they were used on.

I've never used Affinity on the second monitor but I did have to reconfigure their priority recently. And you're right; that was exactly the thing. Monitor 2 was not switched on. Thank you for that so simple insight.

Can we get this submitted as a bug? There's no reason Affinity should be choosing a different display than the one actively being used.

I just spent multiple hours trying to figure out what was happening and why Affinity was 'freezing' on me because my drawing tablet display was still connected but powered off and under my desk. I even removed/reinstalled and dug through the registry.

Whether the second/third/etc monitor is on or not should be irrelevant. The export (and any other, really) dialog should always appear on the same display as the main interface.

Please keep in mind that some users who regularly use multiple monitors want only the document window view to appear on their main monitor & everything else, including all dialogs, Studio panels, & so on to appear on the others. So they would be very unhappy if they could not do that.

That said, I think most of us hope that the developers will find a better way of handling this when the other monitors are either not connected or because they are not powered up are connected do not signal that to the OS.

This is what keeps happening to me, I save artwork and export to PDF, then I have this screen for about an hour, it does nothing, just stays like that, I tried yesterday to save something and it stayed on this screen until morning. (The PDF is saved though)

Then I click cancel, then the program freezes, I can’t continue.
