Kim Barrett Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 My soft round brush has been acting weird since the upgrade. Its not soft anymore. Instead it's layers of different opacities. I have a M2 mac book pro, running the latest version of Ventura 13.5.2. I'm also running the latest version of AP 2.2.1 this example is at 1% flow which I use often. Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 10, 2023 Posted November 10, 2023 It would help to have a screenshot that includes the complete application window, so we can see Tools, and the Context Toolbar. Kim Barrett Posted November 11, 2023 Author Posted November 11, 2023 Yes that makes much more sense to include all the information. Here is a screen shot. I use the soft brush often at a flow of 1% or 2%. this sample is at 4%. as I try to blend with strokes over strokes it just becomes a mess. before this update the Soft Brush used to be just that, soft, now it's stripes. walt.farrell Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Thanks. One piece of information is still missing, as your window isn't wide enough to show all the Context Toolbar settings. Please click the >> icon on the right end of the Context Toolbar and examine Wet Edges. Kim Barrett Posted November 11, 2023 Author Posted November 11, 2023 Thank you. Here. I think I have everything cover. I've also crossed the stroke so you can see what happens when I do. things do soften up if i play with the spacing, but then I get that a graining repeat pattern. walt.farrell 1 Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 Thanks for the additional info. Sorry, but I don't have any good ideas for you. And in trying to figure out what might be happening, I'm puzzled that you can work at such low Flow values at all. When I try that on Windows I get almost nothing showing up on the canvas. I have to go over the same area with at least 6-10 strokes to see anything at all. Old Bruce Posted November 11, 2023 Posted November 11, 2023 @Kim Barrett I think this is down to using 4% flow with an 8 bit document. Try using a 16 bit document with 4% flow. For what it is worth I see the same in Version 1 and 2 of Photo. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Kim Barrett Posted November 11, 2023 Author Posted November 11, 2023 Must be a windows / Mac thing. The low flow rate is good for shading and cloning. Thanx for thinking about this for me Quote
Kim Barrett Posted November 11, 2023 Author Posted November 11, 2023 That is very interesting. @Old Bruce the picture I was working on was from an unknown camera. It was very likely 8bit. It may be just a coincidence that it is the first thing I’ve worked on since I updated Affinity. When I get home I’ll check it out. Quote

For me, at your low flow rate, the Soft Round brush from Basic doesn't show up on either macOS or Windows. Kim Barrett Posted November 12, 2023 Author Posted November 12, 2023 yay! that was the answer. @Old Bruce I converted the project to 16 bit and tada! My brushes are working like I expect them too. THANK YOU! Quote
