How do I create curved text on the *outside* of a curve?

Recommended Posts

I want to create cruved text.
Specifically, I want to create curved text that arcs from right to left along the outside of an ellipse.

Looking at various articles and tutorials, people create this effect by creating an ellipse; selecting the text tool; hovering the text tool around the ellipse until the state of the cursor changes, and then writing text.

If I do follow this process, my text appears curved around the inside of the ellipse.

I want to do the opposite: I want to create text that curves around the outside.

How can I do this?

It can be a bit fiddly. With a closed shape selected, positioning the Artistic Text Tool cursor near the outside edge of the shape will start the text on the outside; positioning it near the inside edge will start the text inside it. If you want it to start on the outside, it may be easier to select the shape & choose Layer > Convert to Text Path.

The opposite of text curving from right to left inside the ellipse is text curving from left to right outside the ellipse. If you want the text to face the same way as it was when you created it, you simply need to adjust the Baseline value on the Context toolbar.

Took me a while to figure out how to position the cursor correctly, but I finally figured it out.

The problem with this method is that I can't control the opacity of the curve and the text independently. So if unless I want the curve object to be a visual feature of the complete image, then I can't use this method.

Publisher has a Text Frame panel for controlling properties of the object that is providing the path for text or a frame for text.
