Erasing masks when copying adjustment layers to another document

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm just a bit desperate when copying and pasting adjustment layers between different documents in Affinity Photo. When I copy adjustment layers and paste them into another document, they are automatically masked. But how can I delete this mask? Right-clicking on the mask does not offer such an option, nor can it be selected. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

thanks in advance

Adjustment layers inherently have builtin masks, so there is no way to erase or delete them. But what you can do is paint over them or fill them with black using the Flood Fill Tool to effectively erase them by concealing those areas, or use white to reveal them.

In Photo, simply use the channels panel to fill the mask.

Copying adjustment layers with edited masks is always a bit risky (getting unwanted effects in the destination document). The best way is duplicate the mask in source document, then clear the mask there in a multi-step approach:

  1. activate move tool
  2. use transform panel to reset rotation, skew etc to zero
  3. reset dpi to 100%
  4. use channel panel to fill mask (with white).

if you don’t reset the mask, it can lead to complex issues in the new document, e.g. different dimensions (getting black mask edges), and rotation or skew can really cause a bad day.

Another way to get the adjustment without the mask is to create a preset, and the either export/import the preset, or create a new adjustment from the preset.
