Gradients on Strokes

Recommended Posts

I have an object that has a gradient on the stroke and then made a style. When you apply the style to a new object, the stroke is always floating out in nowhere land when it should be placed on the object. This is why I can't create layer styles with strokes with gradients.

Hi @evtonic3,

There’s a known issue currently logged with the developers regarding gradients applied to strokes not always applying the gradient stops correctly when applied to a different object via the style picker tool, I’m wondering if what you have described here is the same but with the regular styles.

Could you possibly provide a sample file/screen recording which demonstrates the issue? I can then confirm if this is the same problem or requires a separate issue to be logged.

Many thanks!

Thanks for the recording, I've replicated this and logged it with the developers. It does appear similar to the bug with the style picker so i've linked it back as related to that issue original issue and made reference to the fact that the style preview does not accurately display the gradient stops.

I know the last comment said there'd be an auto update when's there's progress, but come on guys we are a year on from this being originally reported as a bug and as it is still present we don't seem any closer to getting a resolution for it. I recently found this bug myself and my (and I imagine many others) workflows need the ability to save and reapply styles reliably to elements. The is a pretty basic feature requirement of any serious vector graphic design software, so given the time that has elapsed since it was reported it would be nice to see some essential features like this fixed before extra new features are added. Don't get me wrong, I'm generally very happy with Affinity and prefer it to the well known brands, but it's basic workflow issues like this not being fixed that has me wondering if the grass is greener elsewhere!

I just recorded a video of the same issue (albeit encountered using the "paste style" instead of saving a style) but once again I do some searching and find out that it's been reported and open for a year or so with zero movement whatsoever.

You are charging money for this software and marketing it heavily as an alternative to existing industry standard software. I purchased this software to use it not to provide Serif free beta testing that seems to get ignored.
