Ian Greig Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 I'm attempting a very simple search/replace on regular text which I do on as revision I carry out every week, to replace en dashes – with em dashes —. For some reason the search doesn't recognise any. I have tried entering them as special characters as well as key strokes and lifting thjem, from the text. Nothing. Then tried a simple search for a word I can see. Nothing. Closed the doc and application, re-started and opened again. Same. The search parameters appear normal -- but I may have missed something.... Suggestions? Quote

Please provide screenshots of the Find and Replace panel, and of the options set by the cog icon menu. Does it fail with all documents, or just this one? Ian Greig Posted June 17, 2023 Author Posted June 17, 2023 Drop-downs disappear under screenshot but I can tell you that the top one is checked 'Normal' and the bottom one is unchecked for all options which is what I would expect. I did a system restart, just for good measure, and tried an earlier doc with a simple 'Find' request - no hits. walt.farrell 1 Quote

For example, "Match Whole Word Only" should not be ticked to find a dash. In your case, "Reset the format" doesn't appear necessary but it has sometimes misled me too… Quote Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To I apologise for any approximations in my English. walt.farrell Posted June 17, 2023 Posted June 17, 2023 A screen recording of the problem might be useful. Also a sample .afpub file where it doesn't work would let us experiment. I fear it will not help here, as "Match for whole word only" is an app setting, not a document-related one. Ian Greig Posted June 18, 2023 Author Posted June 18, 2023 Just a glitch it seems. By repeatedly entering a common word and 'Enter' I got the expected list of hits to appear. A sticky function or something... walt.farrell 1 Quote

This was done with Command + Shift + 4 and a marquee dragged out. I made the choice then just hit the Command + Shift + 4 to get the marquee cross hair and I could then drag out a selection area.
