albo49 Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 even with the latest version the view does not change when I apply the tone curve, to see the effect I have to reload the file. Too boring 2022-12-08 12-31-15.mp4 Priyantha 1 Quote
Dan C Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Hi @albo49, Thanks for your report! I can confirm that this is by design, the Develop Assistant Options are not 'live' applied to the image that you have opened, as changing certain settings here in this dialog affects the way the Affinity app processes the RAW data, and once the image has already been opened, this data has already been processed with the previous setting. Therefore you have to close and reopen your RAW file once changing any Develop Assistant Options to see the changes in your RAW file, in the Develop Persona. I hope this clears things up Quote
lepr Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 albo49 probably has the understandable expectation of the same functionality as in Photo 1.x, where changing the Tone Curve option in Develop Assistant instantly affected the rendition in Develop Persona. Quote
Dan C Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Thanks lepr - as I understand it, this was not correctly 'live' applying to all RAW files loaded in V1 - therefore the Tone Curve setting was fixed in V2 to match the other Develop Assistant settings, requiring a re-load of the image to be applied. I will however double check this behaviour with our team, to ensure the above remains correct lepr 1 Quote

I just tried changing the RAW engine. Same problem. From my experience with other programs, I would clearly expect that the image would be updated. Thanks for your feedback - I do agree this could be clearer and I'll log this as a requested improvement with the developers now 14 hours ago, Red Sands said: So the software architecture here is fundamentally flawed if Photo cannot update the image with the new preference applied. I just find it hard to believe that such a fundamental change was made from v1 to v2? In both V1 & V2, changing the RAW engine required the image to be reopened - this has always been the case with Affinity Photo. I'm not personally a developer for Affinity so I can't delve into the technical reasoning for this, but this behaviour is consistent between both versions. It was my understanding that certain Develop Assistant options in V1 could be applied 'live', such as the Tone Curve or RAW Output Profile - though as this did not apply to all Develop Assistant options (such as RAW engine or Noise Correction, which is applied when first loading the RAW) and therefore caused confusion that some 'worked' and others didn't. Therefore I believe in V2 that these 'live' options were changed to be consistent with the other Develop Assistant options, in that they needed the RAW to be reloaded to take affect (as above though, this still could be clearer with a dialog informing the user of such). However, our QA team are less certain that this was a purposeful decision to remove the 'live' ability of these certain options and therefore I have logged this with our developers for further comment. I would not expect that the RAW engine, Noise Correction etc options to change, but I have requested confirmation as to whether the change regarding the Tone Curve and RAW Output Profile are to be expected. I hope this helps! Quote
albo49 Posted May 25, 2023 Author Posted May 25, 2023 in V1 it works well and is very useful v1.mp4 Quote
albo49 Posted December 6, 2023 Author Posted December 6, 2023 Even in version 2.3 it was not fixed. Any news on the matter? Quote
Dan C Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Unfortunately I can confirm this is still logged with our development team at this time - I'll be sure to 'bump' this to bring it to their attention once again for you now Affinity_Pro 1 Quote
Affinity_Pro Posted January 21, 2024 Posted January 21, 2024 Hi @Dan C, I just wanted to mention the official tutorial on Tone Curves (youtube starts from 40 seconds) has an instant result when James switches it off (i.e. no re-loading of raw file required). It may be required to update the video and/or manual depending on what changes are made. Manual (https://affinity.help/photo2/en-US.lproj/pages/Raw/raw.html) "The chosen RAW Engine will be remembered the next time a raw image is loaded." It might be clearer if this manual page is updated to mention all assistant settings would require a reload/re-development of image before any changes are visible. Ideally, it would be that any changes in assistant panel take immediate effect so you can A/B test the result rather than having to open two versions of the same raw file with different assistant settings. Thanks Quote
Dan C Posted January 22, 2024 Posted January 22, 2024 Many thanks for raising this here! Firstly, I've 'bumped' the issue with our development team to bring it to their attention once more. Secondly, I've commented on these issues internally to confirm that the tutorial/documentation requires updating, to match the expected behaviour of the apps - though at this time the issue is yet to be confirmed directly as a bug or if this was in fact an intended change for V2, following our other RAW changes (such as Linked/Embedded RAW editing support). Therefore once the development team have concluded the issue raised internally, our documentation/tutorial team can work to correct any relevant Affinity resources. I hope this helps Quote
