I have noted that when I add three periods at the end of a sentence, sentence fragment, etc., that the last letter of the word before is backspaced.  I also have noted that 4 periods appear when I only typed 3.  It’s a concern because it significantly slows my ability to type and edit.  Especially since my document contains so much dialogue.  I need to use this for to bridge between who is addressing whom.  I have attached an example of this from my current project.

I’d be grateful for any suggestions.

I am liking this program.  I haven’t reached much into the rest of the suite.  It is wonderful to be able to do things I used to have to use a desktop to do on my iPad.

Check your keyboard setup in Settings-General-Keyboard and try turning off some of your iPadOS autocorrect options. Here they are on my iPhone so similar on iPad.

Thank you for your reply, Paul.  I have tried toggling these settings in the keyboard controls.  I have also not witnessed this problem in other applications on my iPad Pro.  The problem persists.  I can’t see it as predictable or something I can remedy.  It does require an additional litany of edits and proofreads that shouldn’t have to be done.  I wish I could converge on a work around if not a fix.  Making it work isn’t what I would call a work-around.  Because I can’t use the same ploy, each time, with a reliable outcome.  So, it’s a battery of methods, not a single action that ultimately I can adopt and make part of my process.

Your inconsistencies are happening, I think, because it is the act of typing 3 dots sequentially with no space before them that triggers the auto-correction. The cases you demonstrated that worked are because you did not do that exact sequence.

And it probably it is because you have Smart Punctuation turned on in your keyboard settings. Try turning it off.
