DuncanGee Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I do a lot of HDR stacking and am getting a bit fed up of having to restart the program every 5 or so stacks as I apparently run out of memory. On start up Affinity Photo uses 350MB, once it has finished a stack of 9 images it is using 3,600MB, after closing the image it is still using 3,600MB. Opening a new stack takes it to 6,500MB which doesn't drop on closing the image. So each stack is leaking 3,000MB. Eventually I run out of RAM and the PC grinds to a halt. Any reason why the program can't free up RAM?
Staff Callum Posted April 12, 2023 Staff Posted April 12, 2023 Hi DuncanGee, I can't seem to recreate this here at my end please could you tell me the full system specs of your computer and the version number of Affinity Photo you are using? If possible could you also upload some of the images you are using with HDR merge to the below link to see if I can recreate this using them? https://www.dropbox.com/request/q0viKGfb16EebpvrXiP1 Thanks C Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.

After developing about 5 raw files (and closing them), Affinity started to freeze every time during any possible operation - mostly just when i finished all edits and tried to save the file. The only way to avoid the freeze was to close Photo after 3 files, otherwise you were in risk of loosing your edits. Memory was not exhausted. Mac Mini (2020) always current OS and patches. I edited photos from film slides. Always identical steps in identical sequence: open raw Activate saved development profile (lens correction, ca) activate saved profile for curve (invert colors) rotate / horizontal / vertical adjustments crop develop save export as tiff/16 close file start with next file Goodby Forum, thanks for good discussion and so much support from great peers and Affinity staff. It was a great pleasure to be part of this fantastic community. After 03.10.2025 find me on https://creofora.com
