Xyz123 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 I was having difficulties with touch gestures as I posted in the attached thread, and I believe I have figured out the issue. As shown in the video below, there seems to be a bug with touch pressure. The right blue circle is my pencil, the left is my finger. All I am doing is applying and releasing pressure to the screen. Less pressure registers the gesture, more pressure does not. The reason I believe this is a bug is because this discrepancy is not present anywhere else on my iPad, including other apps and the iPad interface. Additionally, if I apply more pressure to the screen, the touch for gestures only setting is ignored. For example, with the touch for gestures only setting on, I was still able to apply additional pressure to the screen, and use the shape and pen tools to draw shapes. Staff NathanC Posted April 6, 2023 Staff Posted April 6, 2023 Hi @Jocelyn, This isn't something I've been able to replicate on a few different iPads, the maintain aspect ratio gesture when drawing out a shape is working as expected for me independently of the touch pressure applied, and the gesture mirrors this behaviour in V1. Could you try this on your device in the 2.1 beta for comparison? Also, Could you advise which iPad model you're using and your iOS version? It would also help if you could provide a recording of your iPad screen demonstrating this (If possible). Many thanks! Quote
Xyz123 Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Hi @NathanC thanks for your reply. The screen recording above is from 2.0.4 on a M2 iPad Pro, iPadOS 16.4. I’ve attached a screen recording for the 2.1 beta (1743) using the same M2 iPad Pro. I’ve also included a screen recording using 2.0.4 on a 2018 11”iPad Pro, iPadOS 15.4.1. In each recording, if I press very lightly on the screen, the show touches circle is smaller and slightly darker blue. In this case, the gesture is registered. If I press with more force, the circle is larger and lighter blue, and the gesture does not work. I’ve also made sure touch for gestures only is on, but I could still use the Pen Tool with my finger. I’ve dug through the settings in my iPad, and I can’t seem to find anything that would cause this to happen in Designer. IMG_7029.MOV IMG_7028.MOV Quote
Staff NathanC Posted April 12, 2023 Staff Posted April 12, 2023 Thanks for sending over the recordings, I've tried to replicate this on an M2 iPad to the same result unfortunately, the touch gesture works as expected and completely independently of the pressure applied to the tablet screen, and I also couldn't identify any iPad settings which would specifically affect this and it was the same result with touch for gestures on or off within the app settings. Does this also happen if you don't use the Apple Pencil and just use two fingers for the gesture? Also, if it's possible are you able to physically record your iPad screen along with you performing the gesture on the screen rather than a recording on the iPad itself? Quote
Xyz123 Posted April 15, 2023 Author Posted April 15, 2023 Hi @NathanC Unfortunately I don’t have a physical recording to provide, but it does happen even if I don’t use the Apple Pencil. However, since you still can’t reproduce this on your end, it seems likely that I’ve shifted something on my end. I’ve been consciously trying to use less pressure with the gestures, & so far, things are almost back to normal. If you’re thinking this likely isn’t a bug, then I’m happy to call the issue settled. At this point, I’m just relieved to have a solution so I can use the gestures again. Quote

You don’t have a screen protector on do you? , if pressing hard is causing a two finger gesture to be created then that cancels the single finger gesture.
