Pixelatedvertex Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Hi, I'm a bit confused by the color picker functionality. It doesn't seem to be able to pick a greytone from a mask, which to me seems like a useful feature when painting depth masks. There should definitely be a way to do this. Cheers, Ivan Quote
Dan C Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Hi @Pixelatedvertex, If I have understood correctly, you can hold the Alt key and click on the Mask layer to view the mask layer in isolation mode. Here you should be able to use the Colour Picker Tool to sample the colour used in the mask as required - I hope this helps! Quote
Pixelatedvertex Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 Hi, you have understood correctly and the screen capture you show is exactly what I'd expect and want, but for some reason, in my case, while I do get the shade of grey I want in the magnified preview, the RGB values under the magnification circle seem to correspond to the image that is being masked and the resulting picked grey seems also to correspond to the value of the color image than to the mask I'm picking from. I also made sure to set the color picker to "current layer" mode. So either I need to tick some option that I missed, or there's a bug. Cheers, Ivan Quote
Dan C Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Thanks for confirming that for me! Would you be able to provide a screen recording showing this, or a copy of your file where this occurs so I can investigate further please? Quote
Old Bruce Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 @Dan C Being unable to pause the Looping GIF means I am not at all certain what is happening. But I don't think it is working. Do you actually copy the Greyscale so you can then paint with it? Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Apologies, I agree that it does not seem to be working currently - I thought in my original testing that the grey value was being selected but with a different image I'm clearly seeing that the Loupe shows the grey tone, but picks the colour from the image layer itself when set to 'Global'. When set to 'Current Layer' the Loupe again shows the expected grey but will only pick a 0,0,0 value for me on Windows - so I'll get this logged for further investigation Pixelatedvertex and Old Bruce 2 Quote

Indeed, and requested many years ago. Quote
