Figmatt Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I use a retina MBP with non-retina external display (aside: I work in portrait orientation at 19:10 aspect) Some UI elements are blurred when using a mix of retina and non-retina displays. I guess that some user interface elements are positioned at what amounts to half pixels on non-retina displays? It would be great if all user interface elements could be positioned to look good on both types of displays. Scenario 1 MBP open, as secondary display Affinity on external display, as main display some UI is blurred Scenario 2 MBP closed, no secondary display Affinity on external display, as main display UI is not blurred Screen recording of the difference crop.mov Quote
Dan C Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Hi @matt, Thanks for your report! Can you please confirm for me: What MPB model are you using? What version of macOS is in use? Under Affinity Designer 2 > Preferences > Performance, what are your settings please? (a screenshot of this would be best) What are your display settings in macOS for each monitor? (again a screenshot of these settings for each screen would be most helpful) Many thanks in advance Quote
Figmatt Posted April 4, 2023 Author Posted April 4, 2023 My hunch is that some alignment or rendering is being based on the first display rather than the main display? Can you please confirm for me: What MPB model are you using? MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2021) M1 Pro 16GB What version of macOS is in use? 12.6.4 (21G526) Monterey Under Affinity Designer 2 > Preferences > Performance, what are your settings please? (a screenshot of this would be best) I'm happy to use whatever settings are recommended. (the issue happens with Software, OpenGL (Basic), OpenGL, Metal) What are your display settings in macOS for each monitor? (again a screenshot of these settings for each screen would be most helpful) Internal 1512x982 (default scaling) LENOVO T24d-10 External 1200x1920 (default scaling) (the issue happens whether this display is rotated or not) Quote
Dan C Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Many thanks for providing all of this for me, it's certainly helpful! I can confirm I have been able to replicate this issue here, interestingly when using an external monitor that is higher resolution that the internal monitor, this does not occur - but enabling Scaling (More Space) on the external monitor with the higher resolution then shows this issue. With a monitor that is lower resolution than the internal monitor, the issue is shown when scaling is not applied to either. Therefore I have logged this as a bug with our developers to be resolved in a future update. I hope this helps h.ozboluk 1 Quote

h.ozboluk Posted April 23, 2024 Posted April 23, 2024 this issue still appears on macos catalina in version 2.4.2 with an external display connected to an imac 21" with the same resolution on both monitors 1920 x 1080, not scaled, no nothing, all settings are standard all v2 applications are affected, the context-bar – align-icons – and some palettes show blurry icons, especially the stroke palette which is used often annoys at each klick the blurryness appears no matter which render setting is selected, it is all the same on software, open gl and metal rendering nothing ever changes even when the existing application is overwritten by a fresh download I just don't understand how this is an UI-overhaul, when everything displayed and worked already good in v1 however, I look forward that these issues are soon solved after five(!) major updates regards Quote
Dan C Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 Thanks for letting us know @h.ozboluk and I'm sorry to hear this. I've 'bumped' the issue with our development team to bring it to their attention once again h.ozboluk 1 Quote

h.ozboluk Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Why are these interface elements still unsharp, when there had been several "improvement" updates concerning the UI?! How is this still an issue?! Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher share the same unsharp elements in the context menu and the palettes alike. Seeing forward, that these issues are fixed very soon.
