Skadiii Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 I restarted Affinity Designer and tried it again and again, but the strokes won't transform into a path. They just stay outlines. This is so annoying since I need this to work for a logo. Quote

Can you please provide a screenshot of the object you're trying to expand? It sounds as though you're expecting Expand Stroke to perform in the opposite direction - however this tool converts paths to outlines, and not outlines to paths. Many thanks in advance Quote
Skadiii Posted April 2, 2023 Author Posted April 2, 2023 Thank you for your reply. I know how this tool is expected to work - it was just not easy for me to explain this specific issue in English (I'm German). I honestly don't think it would be that useful to paste a screenshot here, because it wouldn't capture me clicking and nothing happening. I figured out that the default paths - which aren't altered with a brush style - can be converted into outlines. So it must be a bug with the "cool" outline/path styles. Quote

I think it's simply a function the applications don't provide, because those brushes are not true vector brushes. They are images stretched over a vector path. A screenshot would have allowed us to see that's what you were working with, and know the answer immediately, if you hadn't figured it out for yourself Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Skadiii Posted April 2, 2023 Author Posted April 2, 2023 Thank you for your reply also! But when it's an image how can they be scaled like vector paths? Anyway, here's a screenshot. The paths are highlighted with the mouse: Quote
Dan C Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Thanks for providing that for me - I can see in your Stroke Studio that the 'Textured Line Style' is selected for these Curves, indicating that they may have a Vector brush applied that does not support Expand Stroke. Can you please attach a copy of the .afdesign file that shows this issue (or a new file with only these specific 5 selected curves) so that I can investigate this further? Quote
Skadiii Posted April 3, 2023 Author Posted April 3, 2023 Alright, here's a file of the objects. Thank you in advance! Ohne Titel.afdesign Quote
Dan C Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Thanks for providing that for me! As walt has mentioned above - On 4/2/2023 at 9:09 PM, walt.farrell said: No, I don't think it's a bug. The brushes you are using for these curves are not true vectors, meaning the curves cannot be expanded. You will need to use either the Solid Pen with Pressure Textured Line Style or the Solid Line Style in order to expand these curves - I hope this clears things up! Quote
Skadiii Posted April 5, 2023 Author Posted April 5, 2023 Thank you. Honestly a bit disappointed in Affinity Designer, but this really clears it up. I tried the Solid Line Style, but when I click on properties to adjust the start and end of the line, it automatically jumps back to brush. How can I get the pressure-like shape of the line as a vector in solid line style? I would be thankful for advice! Quote

Apply the brush named 'Solid Pen With Pressure' to the curve first, and then adjust other stroke properties. Quote
