checkit Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 I am working with Affinity Publisher 2.0.4. After editing an embedded object, it was no longer visible. Therefore I closed the file and tried to reopen it (had happened to me before with another object and that helped there). But since then the file can't be opened anymore with the error message "The file contains features from a newer Affinity version" (but that's not true, I have the latest version installed). Now I'm very desperate because I can no longer get to the contents of the file. Reinstallation did not help either. Is there any workaround how I can at least get to single pages of the file again? Thanks a lot! Quote
Hangman Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Hi @checkit and welcome to the forums... Is the document in quesion one you are able to upload so we can take a look to see if we can see what is causing the issue? It opens OK in Affinity Publisher Beta version 2.1.0.1713 on my Mac, so I am guessing somehow it was saved in the 2.1.0.x Beta version. checkit Posted March 5, 2023 Author Posted March 5, 2023 Thank's for you quick answer! But I have no beta version on my windows installed, so how can this happen...? Is there a possibility to downgrade it to version 2.0.4 again? Quote
Hangman Posted March 5, 2023 Posted March 5, 2023 Hi @checkit, let us know whether you can open the attached file in 2.0.4 and if so give it a good check through as it's been rebuilt... There are a eleven Linked files in the document so you may or may not need to relink these if you are able to open the file... There appears to be an issue with one of the linked pdf files on page 24, 10_Wissenswert-Druck_Quadrat-Kirchentag-21x21_2023_mit-Beschnitt.pdf as in resource manager it shows as 0 px x 0px at a size of 0 mm x 0 mm, so I've removed the reference to it from the attached file as it may (or may not) be the cause of the issue you were experiencing with the file I would check you can open that particular pdf file externally to make sure it's not corrupt and then replace it in the document and make sure it then displays correctly... 04-05_23_rebuilt.afpub Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
checkit Posted March 6, 2023 Author Posted March 6, 2023 Everything works. The removed object was exactly the one where the problems occurred during editing. Thank you very much for the recovery, it made some extra work easier for me! Quote
Hangman Posted March 6, 2023 Posted March 6, 2023 That’s no problem at all, I’m glad everything is working for you again… Quote Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Dan C Posted March 7, 2023 Posted March 7, 2023 Many thanks to @Hangman for repairing this file and I'm glad to hear you're able to continue working as needed @checkit! Just to confirm, I have logged this as a bug with our team with the information regarding the 0x0 placed document, such that we can hopefully identify and repair the underlying cause and stop this from occurring in the future. I hope this helps Quote
Dan C Posted March 8, 2023 Posted March 8, 2023 @checkit, as mentioned above this issue has been logged with our developers following similar reports from other users with placed documents that end up in this '0x0' state, however in all of our internal testing our team has been unable to recreate this issue to understand how this may have occurred. Therefore our developers have asked for more information regarding this file. Can you please provide a copy your PDF document that was causing issues in this file? (if you wish for a private upload link for this PDF, please let me know) Do you recall any specific edits or changes you made to this linked PDF after placing this in Publisher? Any information you can provide will be certainly appreciated Quote
checkit Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 Thank you, Dan C. One of the two attached files generated the error. Here's what happened: I embedded the pdf file, then double-clicked to edit the embedded document (resizing objects in it several times in a row and checking to see if it looked better). When I switched back to the afpub file, I was still shown only a frame of the embedded file, but no preview. This already happened with another object before, there the problem could be solved by closing and reopening the file. So I saved the file, closed it, and when I opened it again, the error was displayed that features of a new version are included and therefore the file cannot be opened. I hope this will help you. 10_Wissenswert-Druck_Quadrat-Kirchentag-21x21_2023_ohne-Beschnitt.pdf 10_Wissenswert-Druck_Quadrat-Kirchentag-21x21_2023_mit-Beschnitt.pdf Quote
checkit Posted March 8, 2023 Author Posted March 8, 2023 What I just remembered is that I had another document open in Publisher version 1.10.6 at the same time - maybe that is still helpful. Quote
Dan C Posted March 9, 2023 Posted March 9, 2023 Many thanks for providing that for me, that's certainly very helpful and I will forward this to our development team now Quote
