.DK. Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 In AF Publisher, I've found that if I go back and retype a word that I don't want capitalized, it gets fixed. But for the type of art I create, this makes me need to be much more alert about my typing than ever before. I hope there's a way to either fix this or it goes back to the way it worked before this version. Example: I type Feb. trip and it changes it to Feb. Trip. Quote
Hangman Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Hi @.DK. and welcome to the forums... As far as I'm aware the only way to do this is to turn off Capitalise first letter of sentences in the AutoCorrect preferences. This means you will of course need to use the Shift key for any capital letters you do want... MikeTO Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 Hi DK, this is one of my pet peeves, Affinity's auto capitalization algorithm is so limited that I avoid it and type my text in another app and then paste it in. It fails to recognize that not every period marks the end of a sentence, that periods followed by commas are not the end of a sentence, and that periods inside of quotation marks are the end of a sentence. If the word preceding the period contains another period, don't auto capitalize. e.g., a.m. tomorrow - This can lead to the reverse issue if the abbreviation was at the end of the sentence but this is the approach Microsoft and Apple use. If the period is followed by a comma, don't auto capitalize. e.g., etc., text and more or i.e., text If the period is followed by closing quotation marks, auto capitalized the next word. e.g., "...today." the - Affinity only checks for trailing periods and commas and the use of quotation marks doesn't trigger capitalization Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.6 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.6 for macOS Sequoia 15.3, MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) and iPad Air (M2)
.DK. Posted February 25, 2023 Author Posted February 25, 2023 Thank you. I looked for quite a while but didn't find this fix. Quote

I think V1 and V2 work the same, so perhaps you had turned that option off in V1 already. .DK. Posted February 25, 2023 Author Posted February 25, 2023 It must have been turned off all along for me, because it wasn't fun when the upgrade turned it back on, I guess. Quote
