LittleFish Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Affinity Photo 2 and photo Beta 2 Icons do not appear on Windows 10 desktop after installation. I had to do a google search to find a solution. This is not a very good start when you want new users of this software. Quote
walt.farrell Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 This is not a bug, but just the way that Windows handles MSIX-based applications. You can get desktop icons if you want them, by following the instructions in the FAQ: Or, if you want, you can uninstall the MSIX-based versions you have now, and install the MSI/EXE-based versions instead: PaulEC 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. LittleFish Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 I should not have to go through this process when installing Affinity Photo 2. This would put off any new user of this software.👎 Quote

It would not affect users who use the Start menu at all. Or users who are used to using Microsoft Store applications. Only those who use desktop icons. LittleFish Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 I went to the microsoft store applications and it failed to load? I use desktop icons and have for some years. I also go to the start menu, I also had to install it here to. I usually download my Affinity software from my account and have done this for many years. I am dissappointed with your response. Quote
walt.farrell Posted February 23, 2023 Posted February 23, 2023 Sorry, but I'm not sure what you're saying about the Microsoft Store application failing to load. For a download from the Affinity Store, if you downloaded and installed via the .MSIX file, it would be in the Start menu on Windows automatically. LittleFish Posted February 23, 2023 Author Posted February 23, 2023 I am sorry if I took you as a Serif Staff Member. I have gone back to my Affinity Account and downloaded the MSI version, it installed a desktop icon and was a better experience for an Icon users. I feel this should be the default method of Windows users. Again, I am sorry to think you was a staff member but I was looking for an easy sollution. I am also having the same problem with the Beta download but have found the answer on YouTube. walt.farrell 1 Quote
AiDon Posted February 24, 2023 Posted February 24, 2023 Note that dragging the icon from the application list to the taskbar will place it there. The reason it doesn’t appear on the desktop is that the MSIX version is an app and does not have an .exe Quote Both PC’s Win 11 x64 System PC1 ASUS ROG Strix - AMD Ryzen 9 6900X CPU @ 3.3GHz. 32GB RAM - GPU 1: AMD Radeon integrated.
