Inserting a new artboard appears to cancel/remove any grid preset:

In this screen record, I quickly set up a grid preset to allow constraining to an angle, and when I add a new artboard, it's completely removed.

Thanks in advance!

@Maxdanger, it appears that you can't apply inheritance to artboards, a similar issue exists when adding margins, the setting is only ever applied to the selected artboard and isn't a universal setting for all artboards...

I'm unsure if it is a bug or by design but hopefully, this is something that will be changed or maybe a preference provided to allows inheritance across all artboards whether inserted or duplicated should you require it.

Thanks for that. That's curious behaviour if intended as even when I go back to the first artboard (where I set up the grid preset), the preset is also removed. So for documents with multiple artboards (or pages as I use them) I'd have to create a load of artboards first, and then set up my grid to avoid repeating the grid set up as/when I added an artboard.

Just seems unnecessarily unintuitive for what is otherwise such a great program

I think it's actually the opposite of that, as in, you need to set up your grid and any other settings you want included, for example margins and so on the very first artboard and then duplicate the artboard as that appears to be the only way to include all your settings on multiple artboards without having to set them repeatedly on each individual artboard.

If you create all your artboards first you can't (as far as I can determine) set up your grid or any other feature universally across all the artboards, any settings you apply will only apply to the selected artboard, even if you select all your artboards and add your settings, they will only apply to the first artboard selected in the group...

Ah yes, I see what you mean.

Affinity - It would definitely be good to have the option to carry any artboard specific settings/configurations over when creating a new artboard, otherwise it effectively defeats the purpose of having that button in the context toolbar. Just something as simple as a checkbox to tick if you want to carry the settings across to the new artboard.

If you drag/drop the first artboard or add from selection to the assets panel it will have all settings as initial set.
You can also duplicate the artboard by either duplicate or ctrl/cmd+drag the artboard to a new position.

That sounds ideal. I've had a quick go but I can't get it to add. I try dragging the artboard and adding from selection but it won't add to the assets panel. Is there any chance you could share a screen record when you have the time?

Set show as list in the little hamburger menu in top of the assetspanel.

That did it! Thanks very much :)

Hi @Maxdanger,

Thanks for your report!

I can confirm that this is expected behavior currently and therefore not a bug - creating new artboards will unfortunately not automatically use grid/margin settings that you have set for an exiting artboard.

However I can certainly appreciate that an option to 'inherit' these settings would be beneficial, therefore I'll move this thread to the Feedback section of the forums for our devs to see and consider adding this in a future update :)
