jdvoracek Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Hello and TIA! Why can't I paint on a mask? Brush is selected, mask layer is selected, but nothing happens when I try to modify mask. Quote
Ron P. Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I tried to recreate what you have in your layer stack, but I'm missing something somewhere. Could you attach your *afphoto file? Have you tried hiding the Group at at the top of your layer stack? It may be hiding the brush work you're doing. jdvoracek 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. Yes, I tried hiding the top group and the background. I moved the mask out of the group and still could not modify. I can modify masks on all other .aphoto files that have masks, so something really odd here. I can't modify the mask in the other group either. I tried copying all to a new file, and got an error that couldn't be done because "no physical size" was specified. I think I will just start this composite over and hope this does not happen again. The masks in question define areas in the background where each layer group is visible. Something must be corrupted. Jyotika Luthra 1.afphoto Quote

So the top mask is blocking the edits on the bottom one. Hi and TU. If I just delete the top group, I still can't edit the mask, so while a good thought, probably not the explanation. I think something is corrupt in the .aphoto (attached to another comment), and I'm just starting over. Quote

Ron P. Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Ok I think I found the culprit. You have an active selection, a small one in the tree above the 2 people you're adding. Deselect any selections and you should be good to go. firstdefence and jdvoracek 2 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. I thought I replied to this on my iPhone, but I must have done something wrong. Great detective work! I know you can't paint outside of an active selection, but it was late and I was tired so didn't even think to check for that. I probably did a small accidental selection when changing tools.
