Despite troubleshooting and following tips from the forum I am unable to edit the size of Picture Frames either through a click through selection that allows anchor point manipulation (well the anchor points are not even coming up on double click but that's for another post...) or the transform panel without the image stretching. It is worth noting that this is an imported IDML that has been converted to an Affinity Publisher file.

What am I missing?

Hi, you haven't clicked the link icon to the right of the width and height fields. Clicking that will constrain scaling to the frame's or image's aspect ratio when using the Transform panel.

When scaling the picture with the size handle, hold down Shift to constrain the aspect ratio.

Cheers

It is worth nothing that some of the picture frames imported from the original InDesign document are working correctly, just not the new ones I'm creating in this document. The extra UI elements aren't working on the newly created picture frames and the black outline is persistent unless using Preview Mode.

Thanks for the reply @MikeTO! Unfortunately I am trying to scale the frame in an unconstrained way. The frames are random increments so like 4.4125x2.134 and I want to make it 4.5x2.25, for example, without the image following the transforms I am doing to the frame.

In another bizarre turn of events, I can add images to copied and pasted frames and they still behave correctly. However, when I remove the original image, the glitch occurs.

Possibly you need to make sure that:

  • You have only the Picture Frame layer selected, not both the frame and the image; and
  • You check "Lock children" on the Context Toolbar before performing the transformation. (Note: This may be off the screen on the right-edge of the Context Toolbar, hidden behind the >> icon.)

@walt.farrell I was waiting for you to reply to this, haha. I was reading your earlier replies to similar problems. Lock children helps with the scaling but not with the Picture Frame UI disappearing. Definitely a suitable workaround for now though!

Sorry; I didn't notice anything in the earlier discussion about the UI disappearing.

Can you share a test afpub file with these picture frames in?  If you can make sure the image is embedded into the file, you can do that via the Resource Manager and i'll see if i can replicate the issue with your file.
