Sam Nabi Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 (edited) I am designing a storefront sign in Affinity Designer, and the background is made up of several overlapping pixel layers of illustrations of lemons. When I export the document, some parts of the lemons show up compeltely black, and other areas are missing. Can someone explain what is going on here? If I try to merge or rasterize the layers before exporting, the black areas show up as well. Edited January 17, 2023 by Sam Nabi specify affinity designer Quote
Pšenda Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 It would probably be interesting to have information/screenshot (with the layers panel) about the areas that are then exported in black. According to your screenshot, it is still the same image. Alternatively, try to provide your file, even with only the faulty part. Sam Nabi Posted January 17, 2023 Author Posted January 17, 2023 The screenshots are not the same. Notice the black areas underneath the word "local", below the F in FULL, and the blank square-ish space to the left of the F in FULL. I have attached a more detailed screenshot of the layers. The adjustment layers are only for adjusting brightness/contrast. Quote
Old Bruce Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I would have just all the Lemon layers visible then Merge Visible vis a right click in the layers panel. Use that and the text to export. Old Bruce Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 You could try a Rasterize and trim on a copy of the file. I think the problem is caused by the multiple Adjustment Layers. I would have just placed the lemons where ever and then grouped them and apply one brightness contrast to the group. NotMyFault Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Any chance you can upload the file? please try to deactivate hardware acceleration in preferences. next, to ensure no transparency is involved put a rectangle in black or white as bottom layer. next, make the Navigator panel visible, and try to inspect if the thumbnail deviates from the canvas. If this is the case, it is a rendering bug. Sam Nabi Posted January 25, 2023 Author Posted January 25, 2023 Thanks all for your suggestions. Unfortunately I cannot upload the file as it is too big (300dpi images for an 18-foot-long sign!) I did confirm that the navigator panel shows the correct design, but the main screen has the black/missing square-shaped areas. Indeed this could be a rendering bug. I am using macOS Big Sur 11.7, MacBook Air 2019, 1.6Ghz Core i5 processor, 8GB ram, and Intel UHD Graphics Card 617 1536 MB. Hopefully this info helps debug the rendering issue in the future. For my part, I ended up downscaling the images, converting them to vector shapes, and moving ahead with some simplified background shapes for this design. Quote

A file that big could be too large for your Mac. If you try to resize from foot to px, what size do you get?
