walt.farrell
Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. What keyboard layout are you using? The default shortcuts are set up for an English keyboard, as far as I know, so if you have a different key layout you may need to customize them using Preferences, Keyboard Shortcuts. RM f/g
Could you check in Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Photo & Paint Brush Tool. Or Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > Designer & Vector Brush Tool. Are there left and right sqare brackets in the fields behind Decrease Brush Size and Increase Brush Size? MikeTO
Note that the Preferences menu command is now named Settings in the Affinity Photo menu in the latest version of Ventura but it still opens a window named Preferences. This is what you're looking for and these are the default settings. Oddly, the first time I tried changing the brush size with the square bracket keys it beeped at me and did nothing. I opened preferences to check and then closed it and it worked from then on, even after restarting Photo. Hopefully this will be the case for you, too. Techno
Would be nice if the Interface Overview tutorial for Affinity Photo 2 knew this. As a beginner this is most frustrating!

As a beginner this is most frustrating! Nice if it knew what? That macOS decided to change the name of the menu item? If so, I agree. But note that it's a very recent macOS change that may not have had time to make it into the documentation yet. And it's going to be somewhat tricky to implement completely. The Help (documentation) will probably have to show both, as it probably can't detect which OS release is in use. And then there is the Shortcuts dialog (code), which needs to know whether to show a shortcut for Preferences or for Settings, and will need to make that decision based on which release is in use.
