evtonic3 Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 In the FX panel using the new multi-outline feature, I wanted to blend two different colors of outlines. But it's not working correctly. Basically I'll be explaining that yellow and blue makes green in the colors used. The small square is the example of what the text outline should look like. There are two squares, one with a yellow stroke with a second square directly on top with a blue stroke, this one is set to multiply to give me the green color showing. This green outline is correct- you mix yellow and blue in multiply mode. As for the text and the same scenario used-two outlines, yellow on the bottom and blue on the top with the blend mode set to multiply, I do not get green. It should show green as the outlines are directly on top of each other. See attached. Quote
Corgi Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but when I tried the small square experiment in v1, I get a black stroke. Two squares that are placed identically, the bottom one with a yellow stroke, the top one with a blue stroke, with the top one set to Multiply. Quote

I wasn't trying to recreate the v2 feature of multiple layer effects, I was simply trying to mimic the "small square" experiment of two simple overlapping squares. I presumed that that experiment should give identical results between v1 and v2. Turns out, in v1, if I put two squares on top of each other, with the top square set to Multiply: If I give the top square a blue stroke and the bottom square a blue stroke, the result appears as having a black stroke If I give the top square a blue outline and the bottom square a blue outline, with the outlines set to Multiply, the result still appears as having a black outline Not sure whether v2 behaves the same way, but I'm not seeing any black strokes/outlines on @evtonic3's screenshot. In v2, the top Outline FX knocks out every Outline FX below, regardless opacity and blend mode. Not sure if this is "by design" or a bug. My vote goes for the latter. In any case, if you want multiple outlines that "interact", then the Appearance panel is your friend: Also to keep in mind: Layer FX are bitmap strokes are vector Corgi 1 Quote MacBookAir 15": MacOS Ventura > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // MacBookPro 15" mid-2012: MacOS El Capitan > Affinity v1 / MacOS Catalina > Affinity v1, v2, v2 beta // iPad 8th: iPadOS 16 > Affinity v2

In any case, I was just pointing out what appears to be a difference between v1 and v2, which I cannot confirm since I don't have v2 yet. I'll leave that to someone who has both. Quote

Add any ADe features you need and get back to APh the same route. But speaking of which: Multiple vector strokes don't work with live text. Neither do blend modes for stroke only. So to use multiple vector strokes with blend modes on text, the text needs to be converted to outline first. Sad but true. In case of multiple outline, Opacity is not respected either. Maybe it's intentional (in principle lines which is Out), but the fx Outlines don't overlap, but are drawn next to each other according to their thickness.
