AP V2.0.3 - Index page number right

Recommended Posts

Do you really want the page numbers in the index to be right-justified, or are you just trying to follow the tutorial?

I only ask as most books written in English don’t use a ‘right-justified-number’ style of index, probably because it can get confusing when the indexed pages are many in number.

The standard for the index in most books that I have seen is the way that Publisher does it automatically.

I can’t help you to format your index that way – I’ve never tried as I wouldn’t want to do it – but I’m sure that someone else will be able to help if it’s possible.

Note: As this is not necessarily a bug, a moderator may move the thread to another section of the forums; the bugs sections are for things that are definitely bugs.

It’s only a 'bug' if the software is not performing as it has been designed to perform.

Since we don’t yet know if the software should be able to do what you want it to do we can’t know if it’s a user error, a set-up problem, a bug, something that the software hasn’t been designed to do, or something else.

I think we should find out what the issue is before assigning it a ‘type’.

If it’s determined to be a bug then a moderator can easily move this back to one of the Bugs sections of the forum.

It's easy to right align page numbers in the index.

After inserting the index, use the Index panel to change the Separator field to just a Tab - ensure you remove the default spaces, too.

Use the Text Styles panel to edit Index Entry. Add one tab stop (click the + icon at the bottom of the list), set the value to whatever you need, and change it to a right alignment as shown here. You can choose a Leader Character such as a period if you like. Click OK and you're done.

*** note that there's a known bug with the More (...) control - the text fields in that popup window aren't editable in 2.0.3. If you want a custom leader character for now you'll need to define it via the Paragraph panel and then update the style based on the selection ***

This example yielded this result.

This panel was redesigned with new features. As Tominko stated, the field is now named After Topic instead of Separator because there are now different separators for different parts of the index.

Please refer to the description of this panel that I wrote in the Publisher manual I uploaded to this forum. You can download the PDF from the link in my signature block.

Cheers,

Mike
