A_B_C
Hi there, I'm sure this has already been suggested, but it’s one of those little annoyances that create friction in the daily workflow. When you drag a guideline from the document ruler, View > Show Guides should be automatically enabled. For when I drag out a guide, it is easy to imagine that I would like to see it afterwards, isn’t it? — I really shouldn’t have to enable Show Guides manually. Guides.mov Please fix this example of needless bad UX. Thank you. 🙂 MikeTO, velarde, Jonny1182 and 1 other
A_B_C
Also, it would be great if there was a way to select and delete guides in place, rather than having to drag them out of the canvas. In case selecting guides is a problem in the UI logic (selected state could always be indicated by different color or outline glow), a simple right+click context menu with the single option “Delete” would do as well. 😀 Fred5738
Fred5738
Also, imo, it should be possible to pick a color for guides. A_B_C
A_B_C
1 hour ago, N.P.M. said: My proposal was and is to have the xara way to have guides. A layer that holds the guides and can be adjusted/locked/deleted/hidden and promote normal objects from other layers to become guides or even draw on this layer itself. Deleting guides by rightclicking is default and an option to go directly to the guidesmanager. There are other paradigms too. For some purposes, it might even be useful to have per-layer guides, especially in Affinity Publisher. But implementing any of these more advanced suggestions will most likely require a lot of work, whereas my two initial requests were very modest ones that can be implemented in no time, yet would already make a difference. “Deleting guides by rightclicking is default” — I wouldn’t waste the right-click option for simply deleting a guide. Right-clicking defaults to the context menu, and there are a lot of useful options that could be added to such a menu in the case of guides. FontLab 8 has quite a few of them already. A_B_C
Ah, thanks for the clarification. I’ve never used Xara apps, so I misunderstood. 😀
Staff Ash Posted February 15, 2023 Staff Share Posted February 15, 2023 Hi - thanks for this feedback. We have made some improvements to guides in the 2.1 beta which is available now, more details below. While in this initial build it doesn't include your suggested "Auto make guides visible after dragging out from ruler" that will be in the next build (next week probably). It would be great if you wanted to try it out in the beta and let us know what you think - you can sign up to the beta program here.
