impossible to open the document(V2), the file includes functions of a later version of Affinity

Recommended Posts

Hi there,
we have a big problem this morning because we can no longer open an affinity designer file which required several days of work and we have to deliver the client. This morning indeed we have the message "impossible to open the document, the file includes functions of a later version of Affinity"! all our affinity suite is in version 2.2.0. If we try to open affinity photos or Affinity publisher we get the messages "another Affinity app is running, but no communication can be established. Check that the app is up to date". When you close Affinity Designer, you no longer have this window that appears and you can open Photo or Publisher.
We work on Imac under Ventura 13.0.1
Could someone help us out of this mess?
Thanks

Serif have said elsewhere that the "another app is running..." message appears because you have that error message displayed. Just close the error message, and i think the other apps will be able to start.

However, I have not seen any explanation for the error message about features from a later version, which others have also reported. If I had to guess, it may indicate some corruption during saving or reading. But (again a guess) perhaps it is an issue with having them "in the cloud".

Do the files work for you if you move them out of Dropbox so they are local files on your computer, not associated with any cloud service?

As for Dropbox, I work with my file stored on my local hard drive and then synced to the cloud.

Thanks. But the error message you showed above is for a file stored in Dropbox. Do you get that error if you use the copy stored on your local drive, in a folder that is not managed by Dropbox?

Do you know how to contact Affinity technical support directly to report this bug?

You can email affinitysupport@serif.com, but it is likely that there will be a fix released soon, as @anto mentioned. So I would suggest just waiting for that if you can.

There are two other occurrences of this logged as a bug, I see, so they're certainly aware of the issue (again, as anto mentioned):

we finally found a solution to the problem, and it was quite simple. We opened the file with the designer version for iPad and there, miraculously, the file opens. we saved the file as a model and reopened this model on the Imac. Only problem, the management of the layers which have completely changed. Apparently the hidden layers have also disappeared, but it is to be verified. The main thing is that we will be able to finalize our work, which took several days.

Sorry, but what do you mean by model?
