PDF placement: V1 vs. V2

Yes, I do know, that PDFsharp is not the best way to create a PDF, but I have no choice (sometimes).

I made a test in V1 and V2 of APu and simply placed a PDF (embedded placement). In Transfer mode everything was fine, but switching to Interpret showed serious problems.

In V1 everything was at least readable, but in V2 every character turned into a grey rectangle. Edit Document and trying to replace the missing fonts was fruitless in V2. V2 reported missing fonts, V1 not.

I am sorry to say two things at this point: a) Unfortunately I am not allowed to provide sample documents and b) V2 is NOT ready for productive use (for me), not only because of different font treatment in V2 explained here, but also with crashes happening frequently (even simply closing a tab could cause a crash).

I do hope things are getting better in a not so far future, because I LIKE Affinity V2, but there are too many showstopper right now.

Likely this is font issues. Affinity took a big step backwards when they changed the way fonts are handled in the new 2.0 but I hope they get this resolved soon because the new changes sounded like it should be far better than the old method how they handled fonts. I ran into font issues already with exporting SVGs so I believe a workaround for now would be to convert your PDFs as curves to remove all fonts.

Hi @joe_l,

Thanks for your report and our sincerest apologies for the delayed response here. We are exceptionally busy following the release of V2 and we thank you for your continued patience and understanding here.

I appreciate you would not want to provide these files publicly, but it will be very hard for our team to address this issue without a sample file that demonstrates the issues/differences between V1 & V2 with your file.

Would you be willing/able to provide a copy of this privately, via a Dropbox link?

If so, please let me know and I can provide a link here for you :)

Yes, I can do this. To add something strange. Placing the PDF in V1 looks fine ... until I close and reopen it. The text is shown wrong and minified. So I really suspect PDFSharp is to blame here, but the differences between V1 and V2 are interesting anyway.

Many thanks for providing this for me!

I've been able to replicate these issues with your file here, so I'm getting this logged with our developers now.

Interestingly I can see when first opening the file in V1, the text appears at a negative size value, and rotated 180 degrees -

Which I certainly haven't seen before and I suspect is the reason for the text appearing differently once the file has been saved, closed and reopened!

Many thanks for your report :)
