wintermute
isolation mode in afinaty designer is completly useless beacuse as we can read in help file: "To exit isolation mode, press the escape or click another layer or click on the page." it means that if you have some background layer you cant using drag selection beacuse it cause exit isolation mode... François R
It's more a hack than real isolation mode. It's the otherwise useful old shortcut Option/Alt-click on layer from v1 to isolate and quickly look at a single object/layer/group that now lets you work a bit with the object itself - until you click on something else. Which unfortunately you can quickly get to by accident: exit isolation mode. Quote 1) You have completely wrecked the layers panel, Serif. 2) I recommend Reddit groups instead of this forum. Not the same few bot-like users replying to everything, a wider representation of users, fewer fanboys, more qualified users. In short, better! 3) I was here to report bugs and submit improvement requests for professional work professionally in a large setup and to bring a lot of knowledge from the world, i.e. professional product development, web- and software development, usability, user experience design and accessibility. I actually know what I am talking about! BUT! We are phasing out Designer and Affinity in 2022 Q1 - and replacing it with feature complete and algorithmically competent alternatives. Publisher is unsuitable for serious use, and was never adopted.
deeds
This should be hardwired to a single key (top level) shortcut switch. Tap once = isolate, tap again = return. In 3ds Max this is the [alt + Q] shortcut but many users map it to a single key because it's so useful, so often. In some apps the ability to isolate the selection and its peers and parent is also an option. Which is equally wonderful. Things like these kinds of considerations for user flow are a LONG way from coming to Affinity, sadly, despite them not being features that conflict with, nor need integration with the tools and algorithms that create and draw objects. These things should have been built into the consideration of usage from day one. But it's always felt like Affinity don't use creative software, let alone their own products in professional creative endeavours - like designing their UI, web pages and promotional materials.
