Auto-resizing text to fit textboxes is the feature I was personally expecting and was then disappointed to not see mentioned in the New Features page for the Publisher v2 launch. I do large data merges for card games and often find myself manually resizing text for individual wordier cards when it doesn't fit the text box. I want to switch to fully using Affinity products, but I still find some other software (e.g. nandeck, component studio) much more convenient for my game dev purposes because they have this auto-resizing of text feature.

Why the retrograde step?

It is not a retrograde - Affinity is a completely new application created from the ground up, which Serif (as he has stated many times here on the forum) is gradually adding the necessary functions to.

+1 to this. I have the exact same use case and it just makes sense to be able to have "scale text" as a selectable overflow behavior...especially for data merges where it'd seem far more likely to need consistency with the drawn text box size.
