MoonaticDestiny Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Nobody asked for a layer "compact mode." Why would you even give us that, Serif? Like, making our layers just big thumbnails does nothing. Why would you make big thumbnails on small ipad screens? Like, thats gonna take up screen space. Like, what am I supposed to do with these big thumbnails of my layers? I can already close the layer studio to hide it and free up valuable space. So why am I given just big thumbnails of my layers? So that I can toggle each layer on and off? Because that ALL I CAN do with compact mode. Anything else I would have to hit the "<" button to show my layer studio and get to my other layer options. Collapsing the layer studio by hitting the layer studio button already frees up space so why give us a blown up version of our layers that does nothing. It just fills up my ipad screen with big thumbnails of my layers. If anything it FILLS UP our display space with a useless panel of blown up layer thumbnails. What is happening? How did you not see this logic and then go off to say on your site" oh well compact mode is a new feature to simplify you display, freeing up valuable space for the really important stuff." Like, get real! Oh my god! And the brush "compact mode" is even worse! You really expect us to chose a brush based on its stamp image?!?! This is so wrong! This is unbelievable that you think users work like this. Nobody selects a brush based on its stamp image. Its always been a brush stroke preview that we choose from. Never a brush stamp. Seriously. Imagine the app Procreate with its brush library as just a bunch of brush stamps thumbnails. It doesnt work that way. Procreate has a library full of brush stroke previews for its users to choose from. Whos idea of compact mode was this? This is so unnecessary. The layer studio could already collapse to free up space. This feature needs to be removed. Im so baffled. This is so terrible. You literally took the layer studio, scaled it up in size to take up valuable ipad screen real-estate and said, "yeah, this frees up space." BIG. NO. fde101 Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 You can use the compact layers view to select and re-order layers too, and the layer options are still available by selecting one and tapping the "..." button at the top. How effective the compact view (thumbnails) will be depends on the nature of the document and what is on the layers themselves. For some documents it can work quite well, for others not so much. There is no rule that says you need to use it if it is not helpful to you. The usefulness of the compact mode of the brush panel will depend more on the quality of the "stamp images" that are present for the brushes... it may be usable for some, but I would tend to agree it is less helpful than the brush stroke previews. That said, neither is a particularly bad thing. Just don't use it if it is not helpful to you. Quote
MoonaticDestiny Posted November 9, 2022 Author Posted November 9, 2022 What is going on over there at a serif headquarters? fde101 Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Just now, MoonaticDestiny said: i hate when ppl use this argument. It solves and does absolutely nothing. What is there to solve? Is the presence of a feature you don't need causing you a problem, or do you need a compact mode which works differently from the existing one, ...? Quote

First, you didnt see the problem with the "?" being at the bottom right corner. Then you suggested adding a delete button where our palm rests so we can delete our work and now you dont see the problem here? Again, I just cant debate with you, my friend. I cant. I cant, my friend. . Youre not seeing it. I gotta go. Quote Credentials: I'm a graphic designer with 2 graphic design degrees and 10+ years of design experience. TonyO Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I like compact mode, i can leave it open and it doesn't take up as much horizontal space on the workflow. Quote Art director by day, illustrator by night: Check Out My Shutterstock Gallery
