Feature request: on/off buttons for layers (a solo mode)

You mean like e.G. in Audacity, where you can optionally mute one soundtrack or make it the only audible one with just one click? That could be helpful in some cases, I think.

Yes, and every audio program. Audio mixers all have solo buttons.

This would be a little more complicated, since you'd also want to solo child layers. So you'd want to be able to solo groups.

Also the isolation mode for multiple objects with Alt+Shift+Click would be nice.

you should add "Isolation mode" in the tile or tags in order to make this thread more discoverable.

If you hold the Shift-key and click on the Eye-symbol of one layer in GIMP, all other layers will become invisible. Maybe this would be a solution?

Isolation mode (option-click on a layer) does that, but - as per the linked thread where I asked about this - the issue is that as soon as you click on an adjustment layer, the layers that aren't isolated become visible again.

I'd be happy to do that, but I'm not sure where that is.

In any case, I'm sure the people at Affinity read these threads.

Also, just for perspective, it's not exactly like the whole program is garbage without this small feature.

As it seems, isolation mode only works on Mac. I'm on Windows.

Click the ... icon right top of the first post in this thread then select edit.
You can change/edit the title and tags also.

I believe it's Alt-click.

Ah okay, that works. I first tested it clicking on the Checkbox and that doesn't work, but it works clicking the Thumbnail by holding Alt. And all checkboxes keep being checked. Interesting!

It sounds like you have multiple layers selected? You can do that to turn them all on or off en masse.

By the way, RichardMH posted a great workaround in the other thread I linked in the original post: just insert a new fill layer underneath what you want to solo (temporarily), and everything underneath it will be screened.

Inserting a fill layer would work in same situations, but isolating a layer/layers in middle of deep layer hierarchy still needs improvement for the isolation mode.
