Philipp G
Hi, it seems the performance of AF on MacBook Pro is continually decreasing. I tried to find a solution and watched the relevant videos regarding beachballs etc, but didn't really help tbh. I'm just wondering if there are better settings to choose? Current settings attached. Thanks
v_kyr
Not really, other than trying out OpenGL here instead of Metal. R C-R
As a test, you could try enabling Metal compute acceleration and/or switching from the integrated GPU to the Radeon pro 5500M one. Dan C
Hi Philipp G, It might be worth running your disk utility, just to ensure the OS has the disk catalogue in order, it's less of an issue on AFPS, but it can still happen. A couple of other things to try, sounds silly but, macs seem to be able to run constantly with no issue without fully shutting down. (I just checked my own and it was 46 days since a full restart!) The problem is, that over time the memory can become fragmented, especially when running heavier duty apps (like video editing/working on large images etc) So frequent full restarts can keep things running that bit smoother. Lastly it might be worth checking your available storage space, with 64gb of ram, you are going to have a very large page file, if storage free on your system drive is a bit close to the bone, you may notice degradation in performance. I just read the thread for the first time and you mentioned beachballs. Are you aware of the automatic brightness issue? Go to macOS Preferences (Settings in Ventura) > Displays and turn off Automatically Adjust Brightness. Depending on the ambient lighting, this setting can cause frequent beachballs in Affinity.
