brucet
I want to adjust brightness, saturation and color balance of a portion of an image. In Photoshop I would simply type Q to open Quick Mask, select Brush tool, draw on the area to be adjusted, type Q again and a selection would have been made. Now I could brighten, color balance and saturate however I want to the selected area. If I type Q or turn on Quick Mask from the menu in Affinity, all I get is a totally black image. I have no idea what to do with that. What the hell does Quick Mask do in Affinity?

If you paint in White you would reveal the parts of the image you want selected when you exit quick mask Bear in mind the normal quick mask is a red overly on the image. In the toolbar next to the quick mask icon there is a down arrow which lets you select... Overlay, Black, White or transparent for the quick mask Yours is probably set to black Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. brucet
I find having to move the cursor up to the top menu to switch between "add" and "subtract" modes annoying. Is there a keyboard command to toggle between them without having to move the cursor away from the area being worked on?

If so, pressing and holding the ALT key on Windows, changes to the Subtract Mode. Once you release the Alt key, you're back to the Add Mode. If as @Ron P. surmised you are using the Selection Brush Tool, check the status bar at the bottom of the document window for hints about which modifier keys do what. Note that the modifier keys may change depending on if the current mode is Add or Subtract. brucet
Thanks @RC-R and @RonP for the helpful tips. I hadn't noticed the status bar info. Ron P.
