Magpie2188
Hi there, I'm fairly new to Affinity - I had photoshop and got comfortable creating digital posters etc to a good enough standard but that's about it. My wife had this lovely idea of creating a photo which had my Mum's parents who have both passed and my son in. The photo of my Grandparents was taken back in the early 90's and my sons is from this year. I've managed to place him in to the photo. I've only roughly cut him out so will go back and refine areas after improvements. I've tried to colour match which did help but it's unfortunately still very obvious that these are 2 very different photos. I would love to be able to make this look as natural as possible and would be most grateful if anyone could share some tips on what they would do? I've attached a jpeg of where I've got to. Many Thanks Edited July 9, 2022 by Magpie2188 Added more description within post
R C-R
Unfortunately, I think it is going to be very difficult to do this, mostly because the lighting is so different in what is (I assume) a studio portrait of the couple & how your son's photo is lit mostly from the sides. thomaso
The grandparents got more light from the right than from left while the boy appears too bright on the left of his face and too dark in front and at the right. I would try to adjust the boy accordingly (darken left / lighten right). A coloured Paint Brush might be required to reduce the bright reflection on the left. For the right edges of the boy a soft edge Dodge Brush might work. Also: • New shadow behind the boy's back + below his arm. • Reduce resolution of the boy (or/and add some blur + grainy noise) to achieve similar details / sharpness as in the grandparents. • Adjust the blue light on the boy's shirt (and arm). • in my impression the boy is a little too small + should be moved a bit to the left Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
