HumblePie Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 Hey all, I'm new to Affinity Designer and am trying to do what I think must be a simple task but am missing something. All I am trying to do is create a gradient mask for multiple curves as a test. If you think of the curves as something like morse code or some other simplistic lines, I just want to apply a gradient mask to those curves. I thought I could simply Group the curves and then use Mask to Below on the Gradient but that does not work. If I do the same to a single curve it works as expected. Can someone give me a quick pointer to solving this task? Thanks. Quote
firstdefence Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 you can use Merge Curves Layer > Geometry > Merge Curves, then apply the gradient mask. You can place the gradient under the merged curves as a child of the merged curves... This should work, but details matter how you create a gradient mask (vector or bitmap): use the transparency tool on the group (in Designer), simplest way create a vector shape, and manually apply a gradient to it. You need to set the transparency level of the nodes, not the color. Add a pixel mask to the group, and use regular colors to define mask Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. iconoclast Posted May 14, 2022 Posted May 14, 2022 If you create a gradient from black (opacity 100%) to 0% opacity and mask it down to your grouped layers, it should work too. Quote
HumblePie Posted May 14, 2022 Author Posted May 14, 2022 Hi all, Thank you very much for the solutions. I tried all of them and they worked like a charm. I knew I was missing something, and the solutions were all easy as expected. Thank you for taking the time to assist me with this task. It's much appreciated. firstdefence 1 Quote
