text styles

Text running over linked text frames does not work. The formatting doesn't work. Why?

Changes to paragraph styles are not reflected in all stories. Why?

Good intention but doesn't work: the ability to change a drawing style to a paragraph style and vice versa. Unfortunately, texts previously formatted with it will not be updated.

Even after 2 years of updates, basic errors have not been fixed. Sorry, you can't compete with Adobe like that.

This is not a problem with Text Styles, @wsilmenau.

It may be one of several known bugs, or it may be a user error.

The user error possibility: How did you draw the two text frames. If you select one of them, and look on the lower right, you will see two nodes that you could use to resize the frame. One is attached to the bounding box, and one is detached from it. (I cannot provide a screenshot right now; sorry.).If, while adjusting the size of the frame, you drag using the detached node, you will resize the frame, but you will also rescale any text it contains or will contain in the future. If you use the rescaling handle, and then you change the frame size or add more text so the text flows into another frame, it will not be the same size between the two frames. Solution: do not use the rescaling handle to adjust the size of a text frame, if it is linked to another frame.

The known bugs:

  1. Sometimes, this happens in documents that were imported as IDML files. More rarely, it happens with documents imported as .docx files.
  2. If you copy a text frame from one document, and paste it into another document with a different DPI, a rescaling of the text occurs.
  3. Number 2 can also happen if you have a text frame stored as an Asset, and use it in a document with a different DPI.
  4. There may be others I've forgotten.

sorry,
I don't understand your answer and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
The text frame was not scaled and the text was not imported from another file format, but copied via the clipboard and pasted without text attributes.

Sorry, maybe I'm too stupid, but with such problems, Serif won't manage to be a serious alternative.

Unfortunately, the tutorials on youtube in my language (German) are too superficial to learn the text styles (paragraph and characters).

Affinity Publisher is in terms of development quite a young product (ID was a mess in its infancy), but you are correct, I experienced this bug also from time to time, mainly when opening PDF and IDML.

Select all the text and copy it. Delete the text frames and make a new one and paste the text into it. Fingers crossed, it should work now. This is something the developers should fix soon, as this bug is very time consuming.
