I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or missing something.

I'm using a tool outside of affinity to create a4 documents. Kinda like mind mapping and quirky images with text etc. This is then exported as a PNG or jpeg from that tool A4 size.

I want to use affinity then to turn this image into a pdf. I've noticed when I import image even though it's a4 sized it doesn't keep it original size.

Also when I do expand image to fill a4 size the font on my image fades and isn't as dark as original image.

Could someone please spend a minute and explain the best settings to export this pdf from affinity in high quality and also how do I import exact size image or get it to that.

Thanks up front 🙂

Which of the 3 Affinity applications are you using?

What do you mean by import?

File > Place, or File > Open, or something else?

If all you want to do is is convert the image to PDF I would Open the file in Photo or Designer, and then Export it.

A4 is a physical size. PNGs and JPEGs only have pixel dimensions, not physical dimensions.

What are the pixel dimensions of the image, and what DPI/PPI is being used to make it display or print at A4 size?

I'm using designer. I'm kinda just dropping the image from my desktop straight into designer onto the a4 cavas. Even though the image I dragging and dropping is a4 size it doesn't drop in this size into designer. (Hope that makes sense) Is there a way to have the image dropped 100% same size as original without having to resize. Or is there a way to do this quickly and not lose image quality.

If I try resizing by dragging the corner of image my original image loses quality and any black bold colours lighten up, thanks

What is the DPI of the image file, and what is the DPI of your Designer document?

Not sure as away from pc at moment. Should it match. Not sure about dpi as a total novice. What's the best practise with this, thanks again you've been so helpful

The relationship between resolution & size is hardly a subject for a minute. A minute tip:

• Make sure your images are sufficient in quality AND size if viewed on screen in a zoom level according to A4 output.
• Make your Affinity document the same pixel dimensions as your images, or
Export or print as PDF your images from their/your initial "tool outside" without involving Affinity at all.
Search for articles in a suitable complexity with details about resolution, dpi, size etc., for instance try https://affinityspotlight.com/article/understanding-dpi/

Dots per inch (DPI) or pixels per inch (PPI) is a measure of pixel density. A 600 by 600 pixel image printed at 300 DPI will be two inches square, but the same image printed at 600 DPI will be only one inch square.

If your A4 canvas is 300 DPI it will be 2480 by 3508 pixels. If your original image is 96 DPI it will be only 794 by 1123 pixels, so if you drop it into the bigger canvas and stretch it you’ll see a loss in quality.
