casthely Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I watch the tutorial videos. When I tried to do the editing with the brushes in terms of the blemish removal, impainting the are not working what is wrong? The tutorial looked quite simple however it is not working for me working on a JPEG Quote
JFisher Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Hi casthelyWelcome to the forum! :)Do you have the correct layer selected? If you do have the layer selected and you still have no joy with the brush, please provide me with a copy of your file so I can investigate further.J Quote
Staff MEB Posted December 8, 2015 Staff Posted December 8, 2015 Hi casthely, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) As JFisher said, without a file is difficult to guess what's going wrong. Can you tell me which tutorial are you referring too and where it fails for you (timeframe)? The Blemish Removal Tool is quite simple to use. Just click over the element you want to remove and drag the mouse. You should the see the area you clicked on being replaced (previewed) by the area currently under your cursor. When you think it looks good as a replacement area just release the mouse. Make sure the image layer is selected in the Layers panel To use the Inpainting Tool, paint/drag over the element you want to remove without releasing the mouse until you finish covering all the area, then release the mouse. It should reconstruct the area you painted with elements from the surrounding areas. Make sure you have the correct layer selected (the image layer). It will not work with other types of layers (adjustments and live filter layers etc). JFisher 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
PhotoNewbie Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I am just learning Affinity and am frustrated over the fact that I cant see certain things. Operator error I am positive on that. I will make another post about that. For this post, I dont see the task you mention above 'select image layer'. Under Layer at the top of my screen, I see many such layer choices as Adjustment, New, Fill, etc but tyere is not a line for Image layer. Sorry if this is just a newbie, roll your eyes at, statement. I just bought Affinity Photo from the Mac App store a few days ago, Version 1.3.5, so I assume I have the latest. But I had also watched a tutorial from the Affinity website, an Introduction for Beginners and his screen showed Inpainting, among other tools, on a tool bar right above the image being edited. I cant get a tool bar such as that to show on mine Quote
Madame Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Hi.We all got to start somewhere. Image layers. adjustments layers pixel layers, they all stack up in the layers panel. The arrow points at the top layer which is selected (you can tell by the blue colour.Adjustments layers are marked by a pie symbol. PhotoNewbie Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Thank you. So on the dropdown menu for Layers at the top of my screen, I should not be looking for 'Image Layer" as I see in MEB's post above? I do not see a blue arrow icon as you show in your attached pic. I will learn Affinity, I suppose, little by little. I get it to do what I need for the moment, basically correcting green pet eye, brightening and contrast adjustment of my pics taken in Manual mode but not RAW on my Canon T5i camera. I just don't get Affinity to work for me as shown in the tutorials. I will keep on going tho. Quote
