I seem to be having an issue with masking unless ive clicked something im unaware of.

I have 2 images....a face and then another face on top im trying to merge.... I add a mask to the top layer and invert the mask so the TOP face image vanishes. I then select my paint brush and make sure the colours are black and white to allow it to reveal or hide.. While in the mask (highlighted to the right on the layer) i paint where i want my image to show but nothing is happening. Ive done a re install (REPAIR) of the software but its still the same.

Wondered if anyone else has this issue or have i clicked a setting im unaware of... All blending options are set to Normal.

Hope im missing something as this is stopping me creating.... All seemed ok yesterday.

Cheers

Why Invert? Just use Black to paint out the bits you don't want.

If you want to reveal the face after you have inverted the mask then use White to reveal. To start make sure that the brush is set to 100 % for Flow, Opacity and Hardness.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

All that done bud.... I used invert as i was just trying different things and found it a bit easier to kind of reveal where i wanted it to.... Ive done it umpteen ways but the brushes seem inactive when in the mask...

Also i notice when i add a mask to the layer, the Layer thumbnail shown no image... Now that may be correct but ive not noticed before.  The thumbnail image is shown as normal with the Layer, but asoon as i add a mask, the box turns grey and shown nothing, then the mask is underneath as it should be...

Hope this makes sense....  Ive been using this for a while now and generally know what im doing but this has stumped me..

That's normal

1. Check the context toolbar and ensure Protect Alpha is not selected.

It may be off screen if you have a small monitor

2. Check the brush you have selected is one of the Basic ones
